Carolyn is a freelance brand strategist & copywriter based in Boston, MA. She is also the founder of Freelance Founders. Carolyn, could you dish on your business & mission in one sentence?
Freelance Founders is a private network for independent creative entrepreneurs. We’re on a mission to empower freelancers to charge their worth, maintain their freedom, and build financially viable businesses. I’m also a freelance brand strategist and copywriter in the beauty and wellness space.
What is your favorite part about working for yourself?
The freedom. When you work for yourself, you have the freedom to work with who you want, on what you want. And, you have the freedom to charge your worth.
Any tips for those thinking about making their passion their moneymaker?
Talk to people who are already doing it! You can learn so much from the people who have already made the leap.
Could you share a bit about your creative process?
I like to wake up early and get my writing done before the client calls begin. My morning routine – a quick workout and coffee – gets me in the headspace to start working. I also draw a lot of inspiration from art, books, and of course, Netflix.
You’ve worked with brands like Living Proof, Sperry, and TripAdvisor. How do you discover and maintain client relationships?
Almost all of my clients come in through word-of-mouth referrals. I love collaborating with my clients and other creatives. I also like to only work with products and services that I would actually use. It’s much easier to brand and market something that I truly believe in.
What are the tools you & your business couldn’t live without?
Slack, Airtable, and Superhuman.
What gets you most inspired?
Other creatives keep me inspired and energized. I love seeing what others are working on and collaborating with people on projects.
What are you most looking forward to?
I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I’m looking forward to being able to spend time with people in-person again. I can’t wait to co-work and host Freelance Founders meetups IRL.
Where can we find you?
